Perhaps the most infuriating part of watching Brain Williams and his “could not be less about selling tickets” moment was his opinion that the movie “may just be a badly needed reminder, for some, that we are a nation at war because of what happened in New York…” Yeah, thank God for movies reminding me why we fight wars! Holy fucking shit, could that be any more like a voice-over from one of those news-reels in Starship Troopers?!
As for being at war because of what happened on September 11th; yeah in Afghanistan, you fucking tool! But what about Iraq? For that "badly needed reminder" I guess we’ll we have to wait for the movie about a press so submissive and intimidated by power that it allowed the Bush administration to conflate the Al Qaeda with Saddam Hussein and scare the public into an unnecessary war based on lies.
But what would that film look like I wonder? Well, maybe it would look like United 93, but without all the, you know, heroism.
Just a note: I was so sure that I’d misheard him about the "reminder" that I thought I'd better double-check and so I waited to register this complaint until I could get my hands on the NBC Nightly News podcast. So much for giving him the benefit of the doubt. Tomorrow night, CBS News.
